Beijing, May 20 /Xinhua/ — On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, Li Zhanshu, held talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, who is currently in China on a state visit. During the talks, both sides agreed once again to extend the validity of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between China and Russia.

Si Jinping noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia partnership relations and strategic interaction, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the PRC and the RF.

The reason why China-Russia relations have gradually reached today’s high level is that both countries have been able to constantly deepen political mutual trust and strategic interaction with unwavering persistence, expand cooperation in various fields with the goal of achieving even greater successes, and also to resolutely defend international justice and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, emphasized Xi Jinping.

“Being permanent members of the UN Security Council and significant major powers in the world, China and Russia should, focusing on a strategic and long-term perspective, promote the development and revival of our countries through comprehensive strategic interaction of even higher quality and give impetus to the formation of a more just and reasonable system of global governance,” said Xi Jinping. -0-
