Beijing, May 20 /Xinhua/ — The official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the People’s Republic of China, Zhan Bing, sharply criticized on Wednesday the head of Taiwan’s administration Lai Ching-te for aggressively pushing the absurd idea of “Taiwan independence” under the guise of slogans about “peace.”

Tsai Ing-wen made a corresponding statement in response to a question from the media regarding Lai Ching-te on the occasion of the second anniversary of his tenure, in which the head of the Taiwanese administration spoke in favor of strengthening asymmetric combat capabilities and increasing what is called the ‘defensive resilience of the entire society.’

According to an official representative of the Chinese defense department, despite the trend towards the inevitable reunification of China and profound changes in the international situation, Lai Chinde still clings to the illusion of gaining “Taiwan independence” relying on external forces, incites attempts to achieve “independence” by military means, and resists reunification.

“Putting one’s separatist ambitions above the well-being of Taiwan’s residents, Lai Ching-te is living in complete self-deception and is grossly mistaken in assessing the situation,” emphasized Ciyan Bin.

He accused Lai Ching-te’s administration of stubbornly clinging to the unattainable obsessive idea of “Taiwan independence” and increasingly squandering the hard-earned money of the Taiwanese people to curry favor with foreign forces.

“We solemnly warn the administration of the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan: no matter how much money it has squandered and how much weaponry it has purchased, these efforts will prove just as futile as the attempt by the ‘praying mantis to stop the chariot’ or the effort to ‘break a stone with an egg,'” stated Zyan Bin, adding that the pursuit of “Taiwan’s independence” by military means leads nowhere.

As he emphasized, “Taiwan’s independence” is incompatible with peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The People’s Liberation Army of China is always in a state of heightened readiness and will decisively suppress any separatist attempts to achieve “Taiwan independence,” securely protecting China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Xiang Bin. –0–
