Nanning, May 20 /Xinhua/ — On Tuesday, China and Vietnam jointly released 270 million juvenile and breeding fish into the Beibu Gulf in order to restore marine fishery resources and promote sustainable development of fisheries.

The event took place at the mouth of the Baylun River in the border town of Dunxin in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. According to organizers, fry of seven fish species were released into the water, including yellow croaker and red croaker.

Since 2017, China and Vietnam have jointly conducted nine releases of fry. During this period, China has released more than 770 million fry into the Beibu Gulf.

Monitoring data show that the catch of key fish species in the bay increased by about 10 percent on an annual basis, which contributed to the growth of the number of fishermen living in the coastal area of the bay.

A representative of the Fisheries Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic stated that bilateral cooperation in recent years, including the joint release of fry and maritime patrolling in the Bay of Bébuwan, has played a positive role in maintaining maritime order and conserving fishery resources.

China is ready to deepen cooperation in the field of fisheries with Vietnam and contribute to the sustainable development of regional fisheries, an official noted.

This year, China will also conduct joint fishing operations with the Republic of Korea and Russia to further deepen cooperation and conserve fishery resources in the adjacent waters.
