Moscow, May 20 /Sin Hua/ — The scorching anomalous heat in Moscow for May broke a temperature record of 129 years. This was reported on Wednesday by the Hydrometeorological Scientific Research Center of the RF /Hydrometcenter of Russia/.
“The columns of thermometers at the main Moscow weather station, located at VDNH, rose to plus 30 degrees Celsius — this means that a new daily temperature record has been set,” the statement of the TASS center representative quotes.
It is noted that the current temperature record has become the second since the beginning of this week. On the eve, the air temperature in the Russian capital warmed up to 30.3 degrees, exceeding the previous record by 0.1 degrees, which was recorded on May 19, 1979.
Due to the abnormal heat, which may last until May 22, an “orange” level of weather hazard is in effect in Moscow and the Moscow region, as well as in other regions of Central Russia, indicating unfavorable meteorological conditions with the likelihood of emergencies and damage.
According to the data from the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, the average monthly air temperature for Moscow in May is 13.6 degrees above zero.
