Moscow, May 19 /Xinhua/ — The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China promises to be quite busy. This was stated on Tuesday by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
By invitation of the Chairman of the PRC Xi Jinping, V. Putin will visit China from May 19 to 20. This is his 25th visit to the PRC. On Tuesday evening, the Russian leader arrived in Beijing, beginning his official visit to China.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia partnership relations and strategic interaction, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between the PRC and the Russian Federation.
“The visit of the President of Russia V. V. Putin to China in the context of two mentioned significant dates promises to be quite eventful,” noted the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“30 years ago, the partnership between our countries acquired a strategic character, and 25 years ago, the leaders of Russia and China — President V. V. Putin and Chairman Xi Jinping — signed in Moscow the Treaty on Good-neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation,” the Russian foreign ministry indicated. “Based on this foundational normative-legal act, which today remains a solid legal framework and a guideline for stable and predictable development of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing in the long term, our relations have reached an unprecedentedly high level.”
“The central element of the program will be the communication between President V. V. Putin and Chairman Xi Jinping. Undoubtedly, the agenda of the negotiations, besides the entire range of bilateral issues, will also include the discussion of the current state of affairs on the international stage. The signing of a substantial joint statement by the leaders and around 40 joint documents is expected,” reported the MFA of the Russian Federation.
“We consistently give priority attention to the development of political dialogue and practical cooperation with friendly China. We consider each other as key partners, ready to provide decisive mutual support on issues of protecting core interests, above all sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and national development,” added the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
