Beijing, May 18 /Xinhua/ — On Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC held the first ceremony awarding medals to “Outstanding Foreign Diplomats,” given to former and current foreign envoys accredited in China who have made significant contributions to strengthening friendly relations between the PRC and other countries.
A member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Wang Yi presented medals to eight awardees or their representatives.
The award was given to former ambassadors of Russia, Cambodia, Chad, and Uruguay, as well as current heads of the embassies of Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia.
“Diplomats serve as a bridge and connecting link in friendly contact between states. Each of these outstanding diplomats is a good friend and connoisseur of China,” noted Wan Yi, congratulating the awardees.
According to the head of the MID of the PRC, these diplomats have become builders of bilateral relations, pioneers of understanding China, conductors of rapprochement of peoples, creators of mutual benefit and common gain.
Van I expressed hope that each of the awardees will continue to contribute to the development of friendly relations between China and other countries.
The awarded diplomats thanked the Chinese side, noting that the awarding of medals is not only a recognition of personal merits, but to an even greater extent — a confirmation of the high level of relations between the CIS countries.
They stated that they will value this award more and continue to make efforts to deepen friendship with China, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthen ties between the peoples, contributing anew to opening even wider horizons for bilateral relations.
About 300 people attended the award ceremony, including accredited UN diplomats and representatives of international organizations, as well as representatives of the Chinese side. –0–
