Vladivostok, May 18 /Xin Hua/ — Against the backdrop of global turbulence, the ongoing deepening of strategic relations between Russia and China can make a significant contribution to maintaining global stability. This was stated on Monday in an interview with Xin Hua by Marina Dmitrieva, Deputy Director for Science and Innovation at the Far Eastern Institute of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) of Russia.
In my opinion, the analysis of Russian-Chinese relations today should go beyond bilateral interaction, focusing on its role in shaping a new Eurasian and global architecture and the synergistic economic effect of the Eurasian Economic Union and the “Belt and Road” initiative.
“The discussion is not about competing integration models, but about forming a single development space in Eurasia with common transport corridors, industrial cooperation, energy links, and new logistical routes,” believes the interlocutor from Xin Hua.
M. Dmitrieva emphasized that in strengthening interconnectedness and economic stability in Greater Eurasia, China and Russia occupy their own niches, bringing their unique advantages to this process.
In particular, Russia, as noted by the expert, brings to this process energy potential, transport infrastructure, experience in regional integration and security, while China contributes significant investment, industrial, and technological resources.
“Together this creates a foundation for the long-term development of Eurasia,” emphasized M. Dmitriev.
According to her, taking into account the interests of the countries of the Global South, which today are gaining strength and influence, Russian-Chinese relations acquire special significance as a factor in promoting multipolarity based on non-confrontation and the movement towards a more equitable distribution of influence and responsibility in world politics and economics.
“Platforms such as BRICS and SCO have special significance here. They are gradually transforming into mechanisms for coordinating the interests of non-Western states,” the expert believes.
However, as she pointed out, under conditions of the destruction of global governance mechanisms, an increase in uncertainty and global conflict intensity, BRICS and the SCO have to adapt by responding to a much higher level of geopolitical turbulence than those conditions under which these associations were created.
“That is why the upcoming Russian-Chinese negotiations have a special significance. Moscow and Beijing face the task not only of preserving the potential of the BRICS and SCO, but also of developing an updated strategy for their development,” she stated.
M. Dmitrieva emphasized that the continuing deepening of strategic relations between Russia and China can make a significant contribution to maintaining global stability precisely thanks to the factor of predictability.
At the same time, he is confident that it is important for Russia and China to continue to consistently defend side by side the earlier central role of international law, respect for the sovereignty of states, and the inadmissibility of unilateral pressure.
The expert is convinced that in the future Russian-Chinese cooperation will increasingly go beyond the bilateral agenda and acquire the character of joint work on forming a new architecture of Greater Eurasia and a more just world order.
“The discussion is not about creating an alternative bloc, but about forming a system in which various centers of power can interact based on a balance of interests, mutual respect, and equal partnership,” concluded M. Dmitriev.
