Baghdad, May 15 /Sinua/ — Iraq’s new Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi was sworn in on Thursday. However, the composition of his cabinet was not fully approved: the legislators could not reach a consensus on several key positions, including the posts of the ministers of the interior and defense.
Parliament approved 14 members of A. az-Zaydi’s government. Voting on the remaining portfolios was postponed due to ongoing political negotiations.
According to the statement of the parliament, at the session chaired by Speaker Heybat al-Khalbusi, 266 deputies approved the appointment of 14 ministers.
Among the approved candidates are Fuad Hussein, who previously held the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Basim Mohammed Khudair — Minister of Oil, and Faleh al-Sari — Minister of Finance.
Having received a vote of confidence, A. az-Zaydi and 14 appointed ministers took an oath on the Constitution before the parliament. –0–
