Dushanbe, May 15 /Sina/ — The majestic Pamir, located in the very heart of Eurasia, once served as the most important corridor of the ancient Silk Road. More than two thousand years ago, the Chinese envoy Zhang Qian, on the instructions of the Han dynasty emperor, undertook a journey to the western regions, establishing a route from China to Central Asia. Thanks to this, the territory of modern Tajikistan turned into a key hub connecting East and West. Since then, trade exchanges and interactions between civilizations have never ceased, laying the foundation for more than two millennia of friendly relations between China and Tajikistan.

Time does not stand still, and relations between China and Tajikistan are constantly enriching and deepening. China was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Tajikistan, and Tajikistan, in turn, became one of the first countries to support the Belt and Road Initiative and join it. Relying on the ancient Silk Road as the connecting link, the two countries are turning the advantage of geographical proximity into a powerful engine of development.A series of infrastructure, energy, and social projects is being consistently implemented, which become the driving forces of the socio-economic development of the regions of Tajikistan.

In the field of transport infrastructure, several projects implemented with the participation of the Chinese side play a crucial role. Projects such as the Dushanbe – Khujand highway, the Shakhristan tunnel, and the Vahdat – Yavan railway have significantly improved throughput capacity in complex geographical conditions, including the Pamir Highlands, and have noticeably increased the connectivity of the local transport network.

Energy cooperation is one of the key areas of cooperation between China and Tajikistan. The Dushanbe CHP-2, built by a Chinese company, has been successfully commissioned and operates in a stable mode, providing reliable electricity supply to the capital of the republic. In parallel, with the assistance of the Chinese side, a technical modernization of the Main HPP has been carried out. The measures implemented have significantly increased the efficiency of the station’s operation and partially eliminated the electricity deficit at the national level.

An important factor in the sustainable development of Chinese-Tajik relations is humanitarian exchanges. The “Lu Ban Workshop” actively participates in training qualified personnel in the fields of engineering technologies and professional skills, contributing to improving the competitiveness of Tajikistan’s youth in the labor market. Confucius Institutes provide systematic Chinese language teaching and serve as an institutional foundation for expanding humanitarian exchanges and deepening cooperation between China and Tajikistan. At the same time, the number of Tajik students receiving education in China is increasing, which contributes to the consistent strengthening of bilateral educational cooperation and the formation of strong ties between the youth communities of the two countries.

In recent years, cooperation between China and Tajikistan has been actively expanding in promising directions — in the sphere of “green” development and the digital economy. This reflects a high degree of strategic coordination between the two countries and signifies a transition in relations from a traditional model to a more diversified and qualitative form of interaction. The parties have significant potential for jointly overcoming global challenges and advancing the structural transformation of national economies.

China and Tajikistan are united not only by a common natural border — mountains and rivers, but also by a strong connection of destinies. The leaders of the two countries confidently set the vector for the development of bilateral relations, and mutual political trust between the states is steadily strengthening. The parties consistently support each other on issues concerning fundamental interests and key concerns, and also closely cooperate in international and regional affairs, contributing to peace, stability, and the development of the region.

A centuries-old tradition of friendly contacts on the Great Silk Road has created a reliable foundation for the development of relations between China and Tajikistan. Entering a new historical stage, the two countries are moving forward together along the ancient Silk Road and unveiling new horizons of cooperation. They give a powerful impetus to the development of the region and open a new page in building an even closer community of shared destiny.
