A new issue of the joint project of the Petersburg Polytechnic and the Karpinsky Institute, launched for the Year of the Unity of Peoples, has been published. In the new series of the project, Polytechnic student Valeria Asfandiyarova talked about her small homeland — Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Yugra — and its natural wealth. This is already the fifth issue, new videos are published on the official social networks of the Polytechnic.

Third-year student of the Humanities Institute of SPbPU Valeria Asfandiyarova presented the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Yugra. The region is a leader of Russia in oil reserves and production. The largest oil fields in the country are located in KhMAO-Yugra — Samotlor, Priobskoye, Krasnoleninskoye, and Prirazlomnoye. Oil is a strategic resource that provides the country’s energy security. Russia’s recoverable reserves in the country exceed 31 billion tons.

Oil was formed from the remains of ancient organisms and organic matter — plankton, algae, and plants. Over time, having ended up in sedimentary layers, under the influence of pressure and temperature, they transformed into what we today call oil. Millions of years — and in the subsurface appears a resource that today provides movement, heat, and energy for millions of people. The key role in Russia’s oil base is played by the West Siberian oil and gas-bearing province, which includes part of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Valery Asfandiyarov said.

The “Place of Residence” project within the framework of the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia gives students the opportunity to tell about their small homeland through the prism of the geological features of the region. Employees of the Polytechnic University and the Karpinsky Institute work on the releases. Students from very different parts of Russia talk about the riches of their region and, using examples from the collection of the Geological Museum of the Karpinsky Institute, vividly show samples of minerals. Thus, information about natural wealth becomes a personal story, filled with sincere love for the homeland and pride for their region, for their country. The main goal is to strengthen friendly ties and mutual understanding among all ethnic groups of the multinational country.

The project is planned for the entire year of 2026. Issues are published monthly on the official social media of Politeia.
