Honiara, May 15 /Sinyua/ — The Parliament of the Solomon Islands on Friday elected Matthew Wale as the new Prime Minister of the country. This was reported by the Governor-General of the island state, David Tiva Capu.
Opposition leader M. Ueil received 26 votes in the 50-seat parliament, surpassing former Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Peter Shanel Agovak.
M. Weyl will be replaced as prime minister by Jeremy Manelle, who was removed from office on May 7 after receiving a vote of no confidence from the National Parliament.
M. Wale was born in 1968. He was elected as a member of parliament in a by-election in 2008. In 2019, he ran for prime minister but did not gain enough support in parliament and became the leader of the opposition. The politician was again nominated as a candidate for the post of head of government in the 2024 elections but lost to J. Manele. –0–
