On April 23–24, the Department of Intercultural Communication (IC) of SPbGASU took part in the IV National (All-Russian) Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Topical Issues of Economics and Management in Construction,” held at our university. Within the framework of the conference, the department organized the work of the sections “Language Training of the Future Professional” and “Science in a Foreign Language – a Step into the Future Professional.” Participants included teachers, students, and graduate students from universities in Petersburg, Moscow, Smolensk, and Nizhny Novgorod, including international students.
Opening the session of the sections, the head of the Department of Intercultural Communication, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Elena Selezneva emphasized: “Knowledge of a foreign language in today’s world is the key to successful and fruitful scientific and cultural communication.”
With each year, the number of applications for participation in the conference grows, so the work of two sections was divided into five subsections.
On the first day of the subsection, the assistant of the department MK moderated the teachers.Svetlana Ryurikova,who also gave a report on conducting a master class on translation at a non-linguistic university. Associate professor of the department, candidate of philological sciencesAnastasia Gubaydullinatalked about the role of comedy in teaching Russian as a foreign language. In addition, current issues of teaching foreign languages in technical universities were discussed, the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, problems of developing professional skills of future specialists through learning a foreign language.
Great interest was shown in the work of students and master’s degree candidates. An entire block of reports was created under the guidance of the lecturers of the MK department – an associate professor, candidate of pedagogical sciences.Valeria Ryabkovaand senior teacherSvetlana Ermolayeva,was dedicated to the problems of technical translation. The listeners of the translation courses, organized by the Department of Intercultural Communication,Anastasia Fyodorova, Tatyana LatypovaиKsenia Kochugurovademonstrated not only a high level of English, but also the depth of research.
Representative of the Saint Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical UniversityStanislava Efimovapresented a vivid and convincing concept for increasing the motivation of future pharmacologists in studying Latin using Latin-winged phrases.
Postgraduate students of SPbGASU from China (scientific supervisor – professor of the MK department, Doctor of Philological SciencesElena Safronova) spoke about the peculiarities of intercultural communication (Li Ziyun), place and significance of critical thinking in Russian and Chinese education (Wei Ziyuan).
The work of the section “Science in a foreign language – a step into the professional future” was divided into three subsections, thematically related to research in the fields of architecture, economics, and construction. A special interest for our university was represented by the reports of the architectural subsection:Darya Karaulova(SPBGASU) presented the concept of a “smart city” based on the example of Russian cities,Valeria KadyshevaиKsenia Kurochkina(Saint Petersburg State Forest Technical University) spoke about the lost world of gardens and parks.Darya PokotiloиVeronika Sargaieva(SPBGASU) highlighted the pressing problems of greening the cities of the Far North.
Within the framework of the economic subsection, participants discussed a wide range of issues related to pricing (Viktoria Lipatova,SPBGASU), ecology, economics of war, forest industry, transport in a modern metropolisIvan Beshentsev,SPBGASU).Lev Nikolaev(SPBGASU) presented a mathematical model for assessing the cost of housing construction.
A high professional interest was aroused by the reports of the third subsection, where such issues were discussed as architectural trends in the design of residential premises for the elderly (Elena Kochetova,Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering), museums and exhibition pavilions (Aurika Andreeva,SPBGASU) and others.
At the end of the event, young scientists noted: participation in a scientific conference not only helps to acquire new knowledge, but also provides an opportunity to improve the preparation of scientific reports and articles, including in a foreign language.
