At the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade of SPbPU, meetings were held of several committees “UN Models PolitEch 2026.” More than 100 students and schoolchildren from all over Saint Petersburg participated in the event.
This year, the organizers presented an updated format of the “UN Model”. At the event, models of intergovernmental authorities worked:
- JUNESCO — discussed the protection of women’s rights in the context of global digital transformation and the widespread introduction of artificial intelligence;
- The First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly discussed maritime security in conditions of geopolitical tension;
- World Council (in an experimental format) — discussion of the deployment of International Stabilization Forces to ensure humanitarian initiatives and infrastructural restoration in the Gaza Strip;
- Security Council — discussion of de-escalation mechanisms and architectures of regional stability in the Middle East;
- UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development — discussion of artificial intelligence in education: risks and opportunities.
Each participant spoke in the role of a delegate of their chosen country, representing its position on the given agenda. Questions from other participants helped to more deeply reveal the country’s position and became the basis for forming coalitions.
The event was attended not only by students of Politechnical University, but also by representatives of other educational institutions of Saint Petersburg: SPbGU, Northwestern Institute of Management RANEPA, SPbGEU, LSU named after A. S. Pushkin, RGPU named after A. I. Herzen, NIU VSHE, SPbGTU named after Prof. M. A. Bonch-Bruyevich, Mining University, as well as pupils of Gymnasium No. 157 of Princess Oldenburg, School No. 257, No. 605, and the school named after Dostoevsky.
I haven’t participated in a model of this level for a long time. The organization and structure of the work were clearly arranged: there were no questions about the schedule or the auditoriums. It is especially worth noting the Model United Nations — the committee was excellently prepared, and the delegates deeply worked through the positions of their countries. I hope such models will be held more often,” noted the delegate from Jordan in the Model United Nations, third-year student Ilya Razzhivin.
At the event, there was also a master class on negotiations from ITMO instructor Maria Stepanova.
The importance of the “UN Model” was noted by the project mentor, Deputy Director of IPMEIT for prospective projects and youth policy Maksim Ivanov: It is especially pleasant to see how the “UN Model” at Politex is developing and uniting more and more motivated students and schoolchildren. I myself participated in the first St. Petersburg “UN Model,” which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and I can confidently say that during this time the level of preparation and organization of events has noticeably increased. Such projects develop the most important skills — the ability to conduct negotiations, hear the opponent, and find compromises.I am confident that the project will only expand in the future, attracting new participants and rising to an even higher level, strengthening the status of Politeka as one of the key platforms for the development of youth diplomacy.
