“KAMAZ” and “Segezha Group” have agreed to test in Karelia a new line of import-substituting logging equipment “Lesnik-2”.
The developed ecosystem covers the entire technological chain: from logging to timber hauling and auxiliary operations. Unlike the previous version “Lesnik-1”, which was built using imported components, the “Lesnik-2” series will consist of domestically sanctioned, sustainable units.
Modernized KAMAZ-1010 harvester, KAMAZ-1012 forwarder, and timber truck with hydraulic manipulator on KAMAZ-65955 chassis will be sent to forest sites in the near future. The technician will undergo testing at the “Segezha testing ground” of the Segezha Group’s forest resources branch of the “Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill” (part of Segezha Group) — in the harsh landscape and climatic conditions of the Russian North. Employees of the timber industry holding will thoroughly study how well the designers and engineers managed to take into account the comments: the previous version, “Lesnik-1,” was also tested there, starting from 2024.
“We see significant demand from the forestry industry for a reliable domestic technology. Cooperation with ‘Segezha Group’, one of the industry’s leaders, will allow us to complete fully objective tests of key forest machines – the harvester and the forwarder – under real operating conditions. Feedback from mechanics and forwarding operators will help us bring it to serial production taking into account the updated requirements of the loggers.”, – commentedGeneral Director of PJSC “KAMAZ” Sergey Kogogin.
“It is critically important for us to replace falling volumes of imported technology with Russian analogues – without loss of productivity and while maintaining high safety standards. If the machines of the leader in Russian truck manufacturing, PAO KAMAZ, demonstrate the declared characteristics, we are ready to consider including them in the fleet of our logging enterprises.”, – saidPresident of PJSC “Segezha Group” Kirill Arsentyev.
Until 2022, about 1100 units of forestry machinery from global manufacturers were imported annually into Russia. Currently, due to the withdrawal of foreign brands, there is a shortage of machines on the market. The existing fleet is aging, the coefficient of technological readiness of forestry machinery is decreasing, and problems with spare parts supplies are noted.
A joint project for the production and testing of automobiles by “KAMAZ” and “Segezha Group” was launched in 2022. The work is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia. Its main goal is to recreate the forest engineering industry in the country and solve the task of import substitution of forestry machines for the Russian forestry industry.
