Changsha, May 13 /Xinhua/ — Douyin Group, the operator of the popular social networking platform Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), belonging to the Chinese technology giant ByteDance, plans to increase investment in the production of short-series / microdramas with live actors, Hua Yueshen, head of the content partnership department at the short-series content rights center of Douyin Group, announced at the microdrama industry summit held in Changsha (administrative center of Hunan Province, Central China).
This year Douyin will allocate more than 1.5 billion yuan (about 219.08 million USD) to support the production of microdramas with live actors, with the average budget for each project increasing by 60%, Hua Yueshen said on Monday.
Thanks to the developed ecosystem and the evolving artificial intelligence /AI/ model, the Chinese microdrama industry is entering a phase of rapid growth and enjoying great popularity.
According to the data from the aforementioned center, the average daily viewing time of short series over the year has increased almost fourfold, with more than 1100 such series each gathering over 1 billion views. The number of microdrama genres increased from 44 last year to 65.
Against this backdrop, Douyin has launched several projects to support the production of micro-dramas with live actors to encourage broader participation and innovation in the industry, said Le Li, chief editor of the micro-drama platform Hongguo /Hongguo/, which is part of the Douyin holding company.
