Beijing, May 13 /Xinhua/ — An increasing number of residents of Taiwan are discussing the specific content of the resolution on the Taiwan issue under the ‘one country, two systems’ policy and are looking forward to the prospects for the island’s development after reunification, said Zhang Han, the official spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Wednesday.
Zhan Khan made this statement at a press conference, responding to a CMI question about a recent survey, according to which almost a quarter of the island’s population agrees with the course ‘one country – two systems.’
Zhang Han said that reunification is an unstoppable historical trend, and peaceful reunification and “one country, two systems” are the most beneficial for people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the Chinese nation.
She added that more and more people in Taiwan realize that peaceful reunification will create enormous opportunities for the economic and social development of the island and bring tangible benefits to its residents.
