Beijing, May 12 /Xinhua/ — The State Committee on Health Affairs /SCH/ of the PRC announced on Monday that in China, from 2020 to 2025, the number of licensed nurses increased by 29%, and by the end of last year, the total number exceeded 6.06 million people.
The number of registered nurses per 1,000 people increased from 3.34 in 2020 to 4.32 in 2025. According to the report, more than 80 percent of them have qualifications at the level of higher professional education.
According to the State Corporation for Health Development, more than 90 percent of nurses working in fields with a high demand for specialists and not in routine medical personnel roles, such as rehabilitation, geriatrics, pediatrics, intensive care, and infectious diseases, have undergone specialized training.
The department added that nearly 6,000 medical institutions across the country provide more than 60 types of home nursing services in seven categories, including care for mother and infant, geriatric assistance, care for patients with chronic diseases, rehabilitation management, and hospice care.
Looking into the future, the state committee stated that efforts will continue to strengthen the nursing staff, improve measures for encouraging and ensuring the development of nursing personnel, expand services for auxiliary care, and increase the availability of care services for elderly people.
In its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), China intends to accelerate achieving its goal – to build a “Healthy China” by 2035. The plan provides for offering the masses more equitable and systematic medical services and improving the overall health status of the population. -0-
