Minsk, May 11 /Xin Hua/ — On Sunday in Belarus, the Day of the State Flag, State Emblem, and State Anthem was celebrated. On this day, solemn rallies and festive events were held across the country.

On the State Flag Square in Minsk, a ritual honoring state symbols took place. Representatives of the government, ministries and departments, and the country’s labor collectives participated in it. During the event, the Prime Minister of Belarus, Alexander Turchin, voiced the congratulations of the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko. In the congratulation, it was said that the triad of state symbols, chosen by the people, reflects the experience and traditions, the complex historical path of independent and sovereign Belarus, its beauty and uniqueness.

On this day in Minsk, there was also a procession with the largest flag of Belarus. The flag was 500 meters long and 9 meters wide. The procession was organized from the “Minsk — Hero City” stele to the State Flag Square. Around 800 people carried the banner along Pobediteley Avenue, including cultural figures, athletes, and representatives of labor collectives from various spheres. Similar events took place in all regional centers of the country.

The Day of the State Flag, State Emblem, and State Anthem of Belarus was established by decree of the President of the country No. 157 dated March 26, 1998, and is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May. According to Article 19 of the Constitution of Belarus, the symbols of the country as a sovereign state are the flag, the emblem, and the anthem. They embody the historical memory of the country and are the most important attributes of sovereignty and independence. –0–
