Minsk, May 11 /Xin Hua/ — Belarus has increased the share of modern weapons in the army. This was announced on Monday by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on state armament programs and state defense orders. The corresponding information was published by the press service of the head of the Belarusian state.

A. Lukashenko noted the increase in the level of technical equipment of the Belarusian army as a result of the implementation of the State armament program for 2021-2025, and also outlined the tasks in this area for the current five-year period.

“The implementation of the program over five years allowed us to increase the share of modern samples in the armed forces to almost half — 45 percent. And the share updated annually increased to 2 percent. It can be stated that the measures we are taking allow us to maintain weapons and military equipment in a combat-ready state,” emphasized the Belarusian leader.

The President of Belarus noted that the main focus of the previous armament program was made on strengthening the combat capability of the air force and air defense troops. Thanks to this, new airplanes, helicopters, and air defense equipment have been delivered to and are being operated by the country’s military units.

To increase mobility, mechanized units received modern armored vehicles, including those produced in Belarus. The equipment of servicemen has been improved, including through the use of modern individual body armor and optics. Significant attention has been paid to the delivery of new communication equipment.
