Moscow, May 9 /Xinhua/ — Russia will always remember the feat of the Soviet people — that it was precisely they who made a decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazism, saved their country, and saved the world. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a speech at the Victory Parade on Red Square on Saturday.
“We will always remember the feat of the Soviet people — that it was they who made a decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazism, saved their country, saved the world, put an end to total, merciless evil, restored sovereignty to those states that capitulated before Hitler’s Germany, and turned into submissive accomplices of its crimes,” he said.
“Our soldier bore colossal losses, made a colossal sacrifice in the name of the freedom and dignity of the peoples of Europe, became the embodiment of courage and nobility, resilience and humanity, and crowned himself with the great glory of the grand Victory,” emphasized the Russian leader.
According to him, the Russian character and the strength of the spirit manifest with special power in difficult times. “Our people stood as a wall on the way of the enemy and showed that loyalty to the Motherland is the highest right, capable of uniting millions of people,” the president added.
“We remember the unparalleled resilience of soldiers, sailors and officers, the dedication of participants in the people’s militia, partisans and underground fighters, the gigantic efforts of the home front, science, industry, and workers of the countryside… All of this lives in the family history, in the hearts of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In the memory of each of us,” said V. Putin.
In Moscow on Saturday, a military parade was held on Red Square in honor of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, in which servicemen from higher military educational institutions of all types and separate branches of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation participated. “Russian Knights” on the Su-30SM fighter jets and “Swifts” on the MiG-29 flew over the main square of the capital. The parade formation was closed by Su-25 attack aircraft, which painted the sky in the colors of the Russian tricolor.
V. Putin also, together with the heads of foreign delegations, honored the memory of the Soviet soldiers who saved the world from Nazism, laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin Wall. –0–
