In the year of the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, more than 200 sections of regional and local roads, named in honor of heroes or events of the Great Patriotic War, as well as roads included in routes to monuments and memorials, will be brought to regulatory condition under the national project “Infrastructure for Life.” This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
“Our people, at the cost of millions of lives and incredible efforts, defeated the enemy, defended the country’s independence, and ensured the future for new generations. In every Russian region, there are routes leading to memorable war sites. A repaired road to a memorial or a smooth surface on a street named after a hero is primarily a tribute of respect to those who, through their heroism, secured peace for us. In the year of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, it is planned to update and modernize more than 200 such road facilities with a total length of more than 1 thousand km.””Special attention is always paid to such routes to ensure that the memory of the hero and the home front worker is preserved for many years,” said Marat Khusnullin.
In 2020, the “Victory Street” campaign was launched. The project involved 83 regions – participants of the national project “Safe and High-Quality Roads.” As a result, about 400 facilities were renovated. The project was so successful that it was decided to repeat it on the next anniversary date.
“In 2025, the country will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. This date has the utmost significance for every Russian. Thanks to the ‘Victory Street’ project and the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life,’ more than 200 objects of the regional and local network, spanning over 600 km, were updated during the last road season. A traditionally comprehensive approach is taken. Where possible, sidewalks, pedestrian paths, and barrier fences are provided.””Memorial dates, memorials, and places of military glory are visited by many people, so the path to them must be comfortable and as safe as possible,” emphasized Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.
On the eve of Victory Day, it is worth remembering and honoring the heroic work of road workers who, in the 1940s, also made an invaluable contribution to its achievement.
“During the years of the Great Patriotic War, as a result of numerous fierce battles, not only cities and villages were destroyed, but also highways. Road workers, together with combat units, brought Victory closer: from 1941 to 1945, about 100 thousand kilometers of highways were restored, repaired, and newly built, over 1 million linear meters of bridges, more than 30 million cubic meters of sand, stone, and lumber materials were procured and delivered for road construction. Thanks to this titanic labor, the advancement of troops and the supply of the front were ensured.””The significance of this work cannot be overestimated,” noted the deputy head of the Federal Road Agency, Kairat Tursunbekov.
During the years of the Great Patriotic War, the Leningrad region became one of the key theaters of military operations. Its territory and population endured severe trials related to military operations, occupation, and the partisan movement. Only in 2026, road works will take place on 15 sites leading to places of military glory and monuments erected in honor of the heroes and victims of the Great Patriotic War.
In particular, this season two sections of the Strelna – Kipen – Gatchina road will be repaired. One of them is located near Ropsha and provides transport accessibility to several monuments at once. For example, here is a monument to Lieutenant General Dmitry Miyalik, who distinguished himself in the battle on the Nevsky Pyatachok, the Sinyavinsky Heights, and the Oranienbaum bridgehead.During the years of the Great Patriotic War, he traveled the path from platoon commander to rifle battalion commander, participated in the defense of Leningrad, breaking the blockade, liberating the Leningrad region from the German fascist occupiers, crossing the Narva River, and in other combat operations.
Also in Ropsha there is a monument to Soviet tankmen – on a high pedestal stands an authentic KV-1 tank that participated in the liberation of the settlement. This monument commemorates the events of January 1944, when the forces of the Leningrad Front encircled the enemy, bringing closer the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad.
The second repair section, 3 km long, runs through Gatchina. Here is located one of the bunkers from the time of the Great Patriotic War. In 1941, these bunkers helped hold back the German army’s advance for a whole three weeks, which allowed the city’s defense to be strengthened on the last line in the Pulkovo area, as well as evacuate tens of thousands of civilians.
During the repair process at the site, the road surface is renewed, public transport stops are equipped, and necessary safety elements are installed.
In the capital of the Chechen Republic, the city of Grozny, a section of Magomed Uzuev Street has been reconstructed — the heroic defender of the Brest Fortress. In the fierce battles, Magomed Uzuev showed exceptional courage and self-sacrifice, forever inscribing his name in history. In 1996, he was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation. The comprehensive renovation of the road on Magomed Uzuev Street is a tribute to his feat and to all defenders of the Fatherland.
Work at the site has been underway since 2025, the section 2.4 km long was expanded to four lanes. The facility is being prepared for commissioning.
Another significant object is the reconstruction of N. Nazarbayev Street with the construction of a modern transport interchange at different levels in the area of the intersection with Staropromyshlovskoye Highway. On Nazarbayev Street is located the Memorial Complex of Glory named after A. A. Kadyrov — an important center for preserving the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War and for the patriotic education of the youth.
In Zhukovsky, Moscow Oblast, a section of Tupolev Highway from the intersection with Frunze Street to the roundabout, where the monument to the supersonic passenger aircraft Tu-144 is located, is being repaired. The length of the repair section is 3.5 km.
The highway is named in honor of the Soviet scientist and aircraft designer Andrei Nikolaevich Tupolev – one of the founders of modern aircraft manufacturing. Even in the pre-war years, Tupolev created a number of airplanes ANT-1, ANT-2, ANT-3, as well as the first all-metal bomber-monoplane (ANT-4). During the Great Patriotic War, the designer also actively worked for the benefit of the country. In the air battles, nine types of Andrei Tupolev’s airplanes participated, in total – about 5 thousand machines. In 1945, “for work in the field of the country’s defense during the Great Patriotic War against the German-Fascist invaders,” Andrey Nikolaevich Tupolev was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the gold medal “Hammer and Sickle.”
Tupolevskoye Highway is one of the main roads of Zhukovsky, having four lanes of traffic. The contractor has already carried out milling of the worn road surface here, and after favorable weather conditions arrive, it will install a new asphalt concrete pavement using the SHMA-16 mixture, apply road markings, and install necessary safety elements.
