On April 26, the South China Morning Post published an article titled “What contributes to the sharp increase in the number of tourists from the Republic of Korea (ROK) in China?” The article notes that the sharp rise in the number of tourists in China is due to two main factors: first, the wave of video bloggers from the ROK traveling to China; second, the introduction of more liberal visa regulations, which significantly facilitate the increase in mutual trips.
In 2025, the number of tourists visiting mainland China from the Republic of Korea (ROK) amounted to approximately 3.16 million people, which is 36.9% more than in 2024. This figure became the highest among the main outbound tourism destinations from the ROK. Only in January of this year, the number of tourists from the ROK to China reached about 303 thousand, which is 48.1% more compared to the same period last year.
Popular destinations include Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Zhangjiajie. In their videos, bloggers from the PRC show how they try street food, interact with local residents. They explore Chinese driverless taxis, high-tech displays in toilets, mobile payments, clean streets, high-speed railways, as well as affordable high-quality food in restaurants.
Park Day, a video blogger from the UK who lived in China for seven years, confirmed the growing interest in China. “Recently, content related to China has indeed become very popular. Some people interested in Chinese culture or the business environment are already exploring opportunities for cooperation or starting their own business in this field. The window is open, and everyone can see it with their own eyes,” he said.
