Ukraine: delivery of aid
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that despite intense shelling of cities in eastern Ukraine, humanitarian convoys continue to deliver aid to frontline settlements. Yesterday and today, the UN and partners sent cargo to support residents of Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.
The convoy arriving in Sviatohirsk, one of the most affected cities in the Donetsk region, was led by UN humanitarian coordinator Matthias Schmale and the head of the Ukrainian UN Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs office, Andrea de Domenico. People received solar lamps, medicines, building materials, and hygiene products.
According to Ukrainian authorities, yesterday and in the early hours of today, about 30 civilians died across the country, and another 170 were injured. Among the incidents was a large-scale attack on gas production facilities in the Poltava region.
Antivirus outbreak
On Wednesday, it became known that another passenger of the cruise liner, on which an outbreak of the virus was recorded, contracted this deadly disease. A total of three people died as a result of the infection. Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) is coordinating international efforts aimed at localizing the outbreak and ensuring the safety of cruise liner passengers. The man in whom the virus was detected, after returning to Switzerland, is undergoing treatment in one of the hospitals in Zurich.
Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation
The 11th session of the Multilateral Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation has begun at the UN headquarters. This year, meeting participants are focusing on the issue of water resources and energy, as well as on the impact they have on infrastructure and the well-being of cities and populated areas. The forum will present 10 youth innovation projects demonstrating practical solutions based on local experience and possessing high potential for adaptation and application worldwide.More than 60 events will take place in the coming days at the forum fields – at the UN headquarters, at outdoor venues, and in virtual format.
