The NSU Mechmat team took first place in both the team and individual standings at the interregional Mathematics Olympiad in Krasnoyarsk

The Interregional Mathematics Olympiad for students of all courses and specializations was organized at the Institute of Mathematics and Fundamental Informatics with the support of the Krasnoyarsk Mathematical Center. It was attended by second-year bachelor’s studentsFaculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (MMF) of NSU:Rustem Sadykov, Nnuga Mongo Ivan Samuel, and Islambek Mambetniyazov.

The Olympiad consisted of two rounds. In the first round, participants were required to solve the problems posted on the electronic platform remotely. Based on its results, no more than 40% of students advance to the second stage. Also, participants of the first round are invited to the second round with certificates of participation in another project of the regional scientific and educational Krasnoyarsk Mathematical Center.

At the second, on-site stage it was necessary to solve 10 problems within three astronomical hours using only reference literature. All Olympiad problems are formulated within the sections of the general mathematics course, such as elementary mathematics, algebra, geometry, mathematical analysis and differential equations, probability theory.

The results of the Olympiad are summarized in individual and team competitions, separately for first- and senior-year students, for mathematical and non-mathematical training areas. The winners in the individual competition of the Olympiad are the participants of the second round who scored the highest number of points. In the team competition, students of MMF took first place in the prestigious category among senior students of specialized majors.
