The delegation of SPbPU took part in the open expert dialogue “Higher Education in the New Technological Era,” which was held on the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation at the National Center “Russia.”

The delegation of SPbPU included Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Lyudmila Pankova, Director of the Engineering and Construction Institute Marina Petrochenko, Director of the Institute of Energy Viktor Barskov, Director of the Institute of Computer Science and Cybersecurity Dmitry Zegzhda, Director of the Higher School of Power Engineering of the Energy Institute Allan Alyoshin, Director of the Higher School of Media Communications and Public Relations of the Humanities Institute Marina Arkannikova, Director of the Higher School of Service and Trade of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade Olga Voronova, Associate Professor of the HigherSchool of Atomic and Thermal Power Engineering of the Yaroslavl Energy Institute.

Over the course of three days, experts attended lectures and participated in discussions, analyzing possibilities and methods for adjusting higher education models taking into account trends in technological development, demographic situations, and changes in the labor market. They also discussed the prospects of implementing artificial intelligence technologies in the field of higher education.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, in his welcoming speech, noted the important role of universities in training qualified personnel and outlined a list of the government’s priority activity areas, including achieving technological leadership for Russia, combining the best practices of the Soviet educational system and modern approaches, as well as training proactive personnel capable of unconventional thinking and creating advanced technological and engineering solutions.

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov said in his welcoming speech that the purpose of the expert dialogue is to consider the established higher education system from the position of those who record changes in the economy, demography, technological development, and international relations, as well as to deeply understand the essence of technological evolution and changes in the labor market. Valery Falkov emphasized the necessity to make adjustments to the process of training qualified personnel and to reconsider the concept of “higher education” in all its aspects and manifestations.

The Minister of Labor and Social Development of the Russian Federation, Anton Kotyakov, in the report “Forecast of personnel demand: how the demand for specialists is changing,” noted the inevitability of an increase in the number of highly qualified specialists, namely doctors, engineers, and educators.Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Maksim Oreshkin gave a report “Fundamental changes in the world economy and global architecture,” in which he reflected on the issues of the influence of megatrends on the spheres of human life, platformization and the change of organizational and managerial paradigms, the technological revolution in the development of the field of generative artificial intelligence, as well as the problem of demographic catastrophe following the peak of the population number.

The result of three days of work was a program document containing proposals developed by experts. The document establishes criteria for the identification of specialties and principles for the formation and listing within the framework of a new model of higher education taking into account technological and demographic factors, as well as changes in the labor market.

The new education model must take into account global technological trends, the necessity of ensuring technological leadership and the sovereignty of the Russian Federation, the socio-humanitarian context, and international geopolitical trends.Working groups formed within the framework of the strategic session defined the principles of forming a fundamental core for enlarged groups of specialties in the fields of engineering, business and economics, law, information sciences, and agriculture, as well as the socio-humanitarian part of the fundamental core of higher education programs, — noted the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities of SPbPU Lyudmila Pankova.
