At the KVC “ExpoForum” the Russian International Energy Forum — 2026 took place. Teachers and students of the Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University of Peter the Great spoke at the event.
At the conference “Sustainable development of the fuel and energy complex and communal infrastructure. Safety. Reliability. Efficiency,” Associate Professor Olga Novikova of the Higher School of Atomic and Thermal Power Engineering of IE and the Higher Engineering and Economic School of IPMEIT gave a report on the topic: “The application of artificial intelligence with the aim of developing bioenergy in Russia.”
The key idea of the study is based on working with students and graduate students in the application of the II module with the aim of forming a market of residues with the potential to obtain energy products, a market of the energy engineering cluster capable of forming standard technical solutions for processing these residues-resources. It is proposed to take existing state information systems and complement them with missing modules,” Olga Novikova explains.
Listeners highly appreciated the presented ideas and noted the necessity of conveying these developments to representatives of specialized committees and companies for their further improvement.
It is worth separately noting the speech of the master’s student of the Higher Engineering and Economic School of IPMEIT, Kirill Ovchinnikov. At the conference “Tariff forks: which directions will energy choose in the near future,” the master’s student presented a detailed analysis of the critical problems of modern electric power industry, and also proposed an original model of technologically neutral capacity selection, which sparked lively interest among the audience.
The proposed model of a technologically neutral capacity market could become a solution to the accumulated problems of the industry. Under conditions of acute shortage, it is especially important to offer concrete system improvement measures — notes Kirill Ovchinnikov.
Kirill’s scientific supervisor, head of the master’s educational program “Economics of Innovation in Energy,” Associate Professor Tatiana Bugaeva emphasized: Kirill has done truly bold and in many ways a controversial work. He does not just state the problems of the current model, but also proposes a fundamentally different approach: a technologically neutral capacity market with a single price, multi-level trading, and a market mechanism for correcting deviations. The presented model demonstrates a high qualification of a student who, at the intersection of energy and economics, is capable of generating well-developed, non-trivial solutions capable of truly changing the landscape of the Russian power market.
Director of the Higher Engineering and Economic School Dmitry Rodionov noted: Participation of our students and teachers in the Youth Day of RSUE is not just a presentation of scientific results, but a real test of engineering and economic solutions for robustness. It is especially gratifying that the proposals of our master’s student on the technological neutral market capacities sparked a lively discussion among experts. For our school, it is fundamentally important to train specialists capable not only of analyzing the current situation in energy, but also of proposing systemic, and sometimes revolutionary mechanisms of its transformation, combining a deep understanding of engineering processes and economic models.
Students of the Higher School of Industrial Management of ISMÉIT also participated in the forum. The organizers of the youth day of the forum selected only 60 students from universities of Saint Petersburg, six of whom are representatives of HSPM, students of educational bachelor’s programs “Management of Oil and Gas Enterprises,” “Industrial Management (Energy)” and the master’s program “Management in the Oil and Gas Complex”: Daniil Guryev, Elmira Mamedova, Alina Nurgalieva, Olga Berdnikova, Nonna Gavrikova, and Anastasia Gusarevich. The curator was associate professor of HSPM Anna Timofeeva.
It is fundamentally important for us that future managers are already immersed in the real agenda of the energy sector at this stage of their training. It is precisely this format of the educational process that forms the human resource pool — people who are not afraid to take responsibility upon themselves and can argue their point of view, — emphasized the head of the educational cluster ‘Industry Management,’ associate professor of VSHPM Irina Bagaeva.
At the discussion platform “Leadership in Action” with the participation of Alexander Grazhdanov (LLC “Gazprom Energoholding”) and Olga Sagalaeva (PJSC “Rosseti MES Northwest”), students discussed real examples of leadership and career trajectories in the oil and gas sector. The event organizers noted the students of VShPM for their thoughtful and energetic participation in the discussion, which ensured the dynamics of the ongoing process. At the master class “Secrets of mastery in public speaking” by public speaking coach Igor Rodchenko, students Daniil Guryev and Elmira Mamedova asked questions about adapting oratory techniques for industry conferences and working with objections in a professional environment.
The director of the Graduate School of Industrial Management, Olga Kalinina, noted: We are proud that our students not only passed a rigorous selection process but also managed to prove themselves on the forum’s representative platform. The ability to ask the right questions, conduct a dialogue with industry leaders, and publicly defend one’s position are key skills of a modern manager. The GSIM purposefully develops these competencies, and the youth day at RMEF was an excellent test.
