Washington, May 4 /Xin Hua/ — Two merchant ships flying the flag of the United States safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz. American forces are assisting in the restoration of commercial shipping through this strategic waterway. This was reported on Monday by the United States Central Command /CENTCOM/.

As noted in the CENTCOM post on the social network X, American Navy missile destroyers are currently operating in the Persian Gulf after passing through the Strait of Hormuz as part of the “Project Liberty” operation.

On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that starting Monday morning, the United States will begin ensuring the withdrawal of ships from the Strait of Hormuz, characterizing this operation under the name “Project Freedom” as a “humanitarian gesture.”

“American military support for ‘Project Liberty’ will include missile destroyers, over 100 bases located on land and at sea on aircraft carriers, multipurpose unmanned platforms, and 15 thousand military personnel,” CENTCOM clarified on social media later on Sunday.

According to information from the Iranian semi-official news agency Tasnim, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran subsequently denied the US claim, stating that “no commercial vessels or oil tankers” passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
