Islamabad, May 4 /Xinhua/ — Pakistan facilitated the release of 22 Iranian sailors, who were detained on board a container ship seized by the United States last month. This was reported on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.
As noted, the US freed members of the crew of the Iranian vessel MV Touska as a measure to build trust. The sailors were evacuated and delivered to Pakistan at night, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Later on Monday, they will be handed over to the Iranian authorities.
As the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported, the container ship will be transferred to Pakistani territorial waters and returned to its owners after the necessary repairs.
The process is coordinated with the support of both the Iranian and American sides, the ministry noted.
As stated in the statement, Pakistan welcomes this event, considers it a positive step, and confirms its commitment to facilitating dialogue and diplomacy. Islamabad continues its mediation efforts to ensure regional peace and security.
