On April 25, at NGU, as part of the anniversary “Internet Week,” a “Big Italian Party” took place, which gathered everyone who loves Italy — teachers, students of the Italian center; as well as those who are interested in the language and culture of this country.
Italian Center NGUhas been participating in the “Internet Week” program for many years: initially it held a “Small Italian Party,” and this year — a “Big” one. According toOlga Kuznetsova, the director of the Italian Center of the Humanities Institute of NGU, traditions have already appeared at the party, for example, the guests of the event really enjoy playing “Crocodile” — a game in which the guessed words must be explained using pantomime, and “Chinese telephone,” in which the participants whisper a word or phrase to each other, trying to preserve the original meaning, which does not always succeed. The Italian language was an integral part of the game: in “The Glow Phone” this year, the titles of fairy tales by the famous Italian writer Gianni Rodari were transmitted, and in the second round of “The Crocodile,” participants had to first guess popular stereotypes about Italians, and then — Italian idiomatic expressions.
At the same time, it was important to take into account that parties are traditionally attended both by those who are already familiar with Italian and those who are just beginning to get acquainted with the Italian language. Therefore, the event organizers planned activities so that lack of language knowledge would not interfere with participation, but at the same time so that this important first language contact would be fun, easy, and playful. Playing “Chinese whispers” required no knowledge of the language at all, and showing and guessing stereotypes about Italians in “Crocodile” was interesting for everyone.
In addition to guest games, there was a quiz — a trivia contest consisting of several rounds with questions from various fields.
—We have a fairly large and very friendly community, so many people always participate in the preparation of the event. For example, the quiz questions were composed by several people at once, each on the topic closest to them. As a result, we had incredibly interesting and tricky questions on etymology, history, cinema, music, and literature — the guests really had something to think about., — sharedOlga.
It did not go without prizes: participants of “Crocodile” with the most outstanding performances received edible Italian prizes, and the winning team of “Quiz” received certificates to the Italian cuisine restaurant “Perchini.”
At the site of the current auditorium of NGU, where the party took place, it was possible to create a truly Italian atmosphere: the evening was decorated with a separate photo zone, Italian songs by the vocalists of the NGU “Million Voices” studio, and pizza.
The participants themselves shared their impressions of the evening, many of whom are already familiar with the activities of the Italian center and follow its events with interest.
—I decided to come to the party because I am already learning Italian, I am familiar with the Italian center and some of its teachers. I knew it would definitely be fun and interesting., — saidAleksandra, a participant in the meeting.
The party became not only an opportunity to spend time pleasantly and have fun, but also a way to get acquainted with the Italian language and culture through live communication, games, and music. The organizers note that the format of language parties will continue to develop, which means participants can expect even more vivid meetings and new discoveries.
