Tehran, May 3 /Xin Hua/ — Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran Esmail Baghaei on Saturday condemned the statements of US President Donald Trump, who called the seizure of Iranian ships by the United States “piracy.”

“The US president openly called the illegal seizure of Iranian ships ‘piracy,’ brazenly stating that ‘we /Americans/ act like pirates,'” wrote E. Bagai on the X social media page.

“This was not a caveat. This was a direct and unequivocal admission of criminal nature and actions against the international maritime navigation,” added the Iranian diplomat.

E. Bagai called on the international community, UN member states, and the UN Secretary-General to resolutely reject any normalization of such “egregious violations” of international law.

D. Trump on Friday lamented that the US Navy acted “like pirates” when blocking Iranian ports. “We seized the ship, we seized the cargo, we seized the oil. It’s a very profitable business,” said the head of the White House at an event in Florida.
