In the Panyu district of Guangzhou city, it is possible to fly in half an hour by “air taxi” to Shenzhen. Drones deliver fresh seafood from Chuanghai city to Guangzhou in just 55 minutes. The economy of heights spatially and temporally changes the structure of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macau, expanding the “one-hour accessibility” into airspace.

The headquarters of XPeng AeroHT, a company engaged in the production of flying cars, is located in Guangzhou. The developed “Ground Aircraft Carrier” can both drive on roads and fly in the sky. Its factory for producing flying cars is already operating in trial mode. On the automated production line, it takes only half an hour to manufacture one car. Mass production is planned for this year, and preliminary orders have already reached 7,000.The flying car “GOVY AirCab” by GOVY Technology (a subsidiary of GAC Group) has successfully completed a demonstration flight in the central part of Guangzhou and is currently undergoing the certification procedure for airworthiness. It is expected that mass production will begin by the end of this year. After approval for commercial operation, the price for such “air taxis” may gradually decrease to the level of regular taxis.

Scenarios for the application of high-rise elevator economics are constantly expanding. Meituan drones carry out regular deliveries in Dongguan, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, with the fastest delivery time being 15 minutes. SF Express has deployed a network for the urgent delivery of medical cargo along the high-speed railway Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Xianggang. More than 5000 drones from Guangdong Power Grid automatically patrol power transmission lines.

In Guangdong province, more than 30% of the entire industrial chain of small drones in China is concentrated — about 15,000 companies, including leaders such as EHang and DJI. In the Greater Bay Area, a complete production chain has been formed: from key components to the manufacture of flying devices, as well as their application in scenarios such as logistics, urban transport, emergency response, and others.

The district cities coordinate their efforts to develop the aerospace economy. Guanzhou plans to build 10 bases, 100 sites, and 1,000 takeoff and landing points by 2030. In Chuzhou, a special category of land has been introduced for the needs of low-altitude takeoff and landing infrastructure. A number of cooperation agreements have been signed between leading authorities, major enterprises, and industry associations from Xiangyang, Aomen, Guanzhou, Chuzhou, and other cities in this sphere. Thus, a three-dimensional, networked ecosystem of the aerospace economy is being formed.

In recent years, the Greater Bay Area has made the economy of small heights a strategic priority. Guangdong Province published an action plan, Shenzhen released its program for high-quality construction of infrastructure for the small heights economy, Zhuhai is creating a demonstration zone for the small heights economy on the island, and Xianggang also plans to develop a program for the development of this industry.

As stated by the representative of the government of Guangdong province, within the framework of the 15th five-year plan, the province will actively expand the market application of high-altitude economy, improve the infrastructure network, and promote its high-quality development.
