Beijing, April 30 /Xinhua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, China’s domestic tourism market demonstrated steady growth both in terms of the number of trips and the volume of tourist consumption, indicating stable demand for tourism services in the country’s domestic tourism sector.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC, in January-March, residents of China made a little more than 1.9 billion domestic tourist trips, which is 6 percent more compared to the same period last year.
Urban residents made 1.4 billion trips (an increase of 6.5%), while rural residents made 498 million trips, a growth of 4.6%.
In total, tourists spent 1.86 trillion yuan (about 271 billion USD) on trips, which is 2.9% more in annual terms. Tourist expenditures by urban and rural residents increased by 3.5% and 0.4% respectively, amounting to 1.53 trillion and 320 billion yuan.
