Tbilisi, April 29 /Xin Hua/ — The updated free trade agreement between Georgia and China is a response to modern trends in global trade formed after the entry into force of a single document in 2018. This was stated on Wednesday by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Gennady Arveladze, in an interview with the Georgian edition of Business Insider Georgia.

In April 2026, Georgia and China signed a protocol on the update of the free trade agreement. According to G. Arveladze, the new version provides for the encouragement of bilateral investments, simplification of various procedures, and expansion of access to information.

“In addition, the agreement introduces new mechanisms in the sanitary and phytosanitary sphere aimed at the accelerated removal of technical and trade barriers. With this goal, the creation of a bilateral committee on product market access issues is planned,” noted the deputy minister, emphasizing that the implementation of more effective mechanisms will allow accelerating the export of Georgian goods to the Chinese market and expanding the country’s export potential.

According to G. Arveladze, Georgia and China will create a special investment mechanism that will allow large infrastructural investment projects to be discussed at the bilateral level and will promote the establishment of contacts with large and medium-sized corporations, as well as attracting investments in specific projects. –0–
