Bishkek, April 28 /Xinhua/ — A meeting of defense ministers of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held on Tuesday in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting was attended by and featured a speech by the Minister of Defense of the People’s Republic of China, Dun Czuun.
Dun Cjun noted that the Initiative on Global Development, the Initiative on Global Security, the Initiative on Global Civilization, and the Initiative on Global Governance contribute valuable stability and certainty to an unsettled world.According to him, the SCO, being a model of following multilateralism, must by joint efforts firmly uphold the international order, protect honesty and justice, promote the improvement of governance in the security sphere, eliminate the grounds for shocks and conflicts through joint development, and bring the “strength of the SCO” into the achievement of sustainable peace, development, and prosperity.
As emphasized by the head of the Chinese defense department, on the threshold of the 25th anniversary of the SCO, the organization’s members should deepen cooperation in the fields of defense and security, as well as promote the high-quality development of the SCO, which is characterized by even greater cohesion, places an even greater emphasis on interaction, demonstrates even greater vitality, and is capable of achieving even greater results.
At the meeting, the heads of the defense departments of the member states of the SCO expressed their readiness to strengthen strategic contacts, promote practical cooperation, and ensure peace and security in the region.
Before the meeting, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, held a meeting with the heads of the defense departments of the SCO countries.
