The revival of the tram has become one of the most noticeable trends in Moscow transport in recent years. Today, a network of 36 routes and 432 kilometers of tracks connects 86 districts of the city. About this inin their blogSergey Sobyanin said.

“Daily, passengers make over 830 thousand trips — twice as many as in 2020. And, according to forecasts, by 2030 the number of trips will increase another 1.5 times — up to 1.2 million per day. A tremendous contribution to the growth in tram popularity was the creation of diametrical routes,” noted the Mayor of Moscow.

Since the launch of route T1 in November 2025, passengers have already made 10 million trips. The daily passenger flow in the corridor between the “Universitet” metro station and Metrogorodok has already doubled—from 60 thousand to 120 thousand trips per day. On the second diameter T2, which was launched in April, a noticeable increase in passenger flow is also observed.

In this regard, the expansion of the geography of the Moscow tram continues. Recently, construction began on a new line approximately four kilometers long. It will run from the Ivanovskoe district along Entuziastov Highway to 3rd Vladimirskaya Street and will join the existing tram network.

The new tram line will allow a radical improvement in transport accessibility of the Ivanovskoe district, where 130 thousand Muscovites live. Currently, local residents reach the nearest metro stations by bus — such a trip often takes 30–40 minutes. By using the tram, they will be able to make this journey much faster. Travel time to the “Shosse Entuziastov” metro station will be reduced by 40 percent — from 38 to 23 minutes, and it will be possible to reach the “Aviamotornaya” metro station in 29 minutes instead of 42.

In addition, passengers will be able to use the first nonstop tram route from the MKAD to the city center. It will start on Stalevarov Street and go past Kursky railway station and the Garden Ring. Another new route will connect Ivanovskoe with the Semenovskaya metro station.

The new tram line with five stops will run separately from the flow of cars. At the terminal stop (Stalevarov Street) a turnaround ring will be equipped, a rest building for drivers will be provided, and a transfer to city and suburban buses and trolleybuses will be organized.

The project also includes two turn-around parking lots, a layover and turn-around area for electric buses with charging stations, elevated boarding platforms that will make boarding and alighting convenient for people with limited mobility and parents with strollers, as well as smart waiting pavilions with charging slots for gadgets and information boards.

“The construction of the new section is being carried out using modern, minimally invasive technologies: seamless track and vibration-absorbing mats. This will allow minimizing the noise level both in the residential area and in the recreational zones of Terletsky and Izmailovsky parks,” added Sergey Sobyanin.

The noise from the tram will be much less than from the stream of cars following along Enthusiasts’ Highway. According to preliminary estimates, after the tram launch, it will decrease by approximately 10 percent.

The development of the tram network is a significant contribution of the Moscow Government to the implementation of the national project.“Infrastructure for Life”. More details about the national projects of Russia and the contribution of the capital can be found atspecial page.
