Beijing, April 29 /Xinhua/ — In China, the creation of a legal system in the field of the internet, meeting the requirements of its development, is practically completed. As of December last year, more than 180 laws and normative acts related to cyberspace had come into force in the country. This is stated in a report published on Tuesday by the State Internet Information Office of the PRC.
The document provides an overview of China’s progress in ensuring the rule of law in cyberspace during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
According to the report, in 2025 the country observed further improvements in the basic cybersecurity and informatization system, institutes and mechanisms of law enforcement on the Internet, which contributed to a deeper use of information technologies in judicial work.
Moreover, last year the country also intensified and deepened its propaganda and educational work in the field of cyberspace governance based on the law and played a more active role in the development of international rules in cyberspace, the document says.
For the decisive protection of the legal rights and interests of Chinese internet users, efforts to ensure law enforcement in cyberspace were continued in 2025. According to the report, representatives of 5,811 websites and online platforms were summoned by government cyber administration authorities. These authorities issued 1,646 warnings, imposed fines on 521 sites and platforms, and also annulled the registration and shut down 9,637 websites and applications. -0-
