Developed road infrastructure serves as the basis for a comfortable life for people and the growth of regional economies. One of the projects is the major repair of route P-280 “Novorossiya,” which is part of the transit route in Crimea and is included in the Azov transport ring. Currently, an expansion of this road section is underway in the village of Taganrog in the Rostov region—from the 70th to the 83rd km, Deputy Chairman of the Government Marat Khusnullin reported.

“Road works continue across the country despite difficult current conditions. This includes the overhaul of a section of the R-280 “Novorossiysk” highway near Taganrog in the Rostov region. According to the plan, federal road workers should complete the project by October 2027, but at present the expansion of the highway is ahead of schedule. The current readiness of the project is approximately 45%. The road has strategic importance both for transit to Crimea and for intraregional transportation, connecting Taganrog, tens of villages and farms with the regional center,” noted Marat Khusnullin.

Specialists use a technology of phased traffic switching: first, they arrange two new lanes, run traffic through them, and then bring the old ones back in order. This approach allows carrying out major repairs without narrowing the roadway and with minimal inconvenience for motorists.

The base of the lower layer of the pavement has been arranged today on 9 km of new lanes and on 7 km of old lanes. At the same time, gas and water pipes, communication lines, and electric lighting are being rearranged.

On a 13-kilometer section, it is planned to rebuild 12 exits and intersections with local roads, equipping them with high-speed lanes. Two public transport stops will also be equipped, a central barrier fence will be installed to prevent the risk of head-on collisions, and road signs.

Works are being carried out within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life.”

The R-280 “Novorossiya” highway Rostov-on-Don – Mariupol – Melitopol – Simferopol stretches for more than 630 km, passing through the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, the Republic of Crimea, as well as the Rostov region, and is operated by FCU “Uprdor “Taman”. Comprehensive work on expanding the highway to four lanes is actively underway along its entire length. The key goal is to increase the throughput capacity of the in-demand highway and the overall level of traffic safety.
