Beijing, April 29 /Xinhua/ — Beijing has launched a unified online platform of comprehensive services “GO BEIJING”, offering foreign visitors to the Chinese capital a full range of convenient services covering all aspects of life and various scenarios, local authorities said on Tuesday.
The platform was created jointly by the Beijing Municipal Government Service Administration and the payment services platform Alipay in cooperation with other local government agencies, such as the Beijing Department of Culture and Tourism, the Beijing Commerce Bureau, and the Beijing Municipal Tax Service.
Foreign guests can access the mentioned platform through the international version of Alipay and use 39 services in 16 languages, including trip planning, ticket booking, and hotels. The platform also provides digital services such as “AI-tour guide.”
On the platform, foreign travelers can open an account for a “travel wallet,” transfer funds via cross-border transfers, and use it to make payments in the continental part of China. This service is available to users from 40 countries and regions around the world.
The Chinese capital is constantly improving services for foreigners. For example, since last year, in the area between the international arrival terminals of Beijing’s Shoudu and Daxing international airports, unified service points have been operating, offering more than 20 types of basic services in areas such as finance, communications, transportation, culture, and tourism.
As of the morning of April 26, the total number of border crossings through checkpoints in the Chinese capital since the beginning of the year has exceeded 7 million person-times, which is 13.3 percent more in annual terms. The recent surge in inbound tourism in Beijing is partially explained by the continuous optimization of the visa-free policy. As of today, China has introduced a unilateral visa-free regime for 50 countries, and also increased the number of countries whose citizens are allowed a 240-hour visa-free transit to 55. -0-
