Tashkent, April 29 /Xin Hua/ — On Tuesday, an international festival-performance of Chinese poetry recitation “Poems Connecting the World” was held in the Uzbek city of Samarkand, gathering local lovers of the Chinese language who wished to get acquainted with the beauty of Chinese poetry.
The director of the Confucius Institute at the Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages /SamGIIA/ Xian Wei said in his speech that the fact that foreign students studying Chinese begin to read Chinese poetry and understand its meaning means that they are truly beginning to approach the culture behind the language. By listening, reading, reciting, and memorizing poems, students can not only appreciate the unique charm of Chinese poetry but also feel the spiritual value inherent in the outstanding traditional Chinese culture.
Speaking at the event, the head of the Chinese language department of the Faculty of Oriental Languages at SamHIIA, Abdurassul Tushtamishev, noted that this festival is not only a demonstration of achievements in the study of the Chinese language, but also a way to unite young people from Uzbekistan and China who use the Chinese language — different and not quite identical, but equally sincere — to express their emotions and understand each other.
More than 70 students studying Chinese in local primary, secondary, and higher educational institutions expressively performed classical Chinese poems, musical pieces, and also demonstrated traditional Shanfu / traditional Shan clothing.
