Sergey Sobyanin launched the construction of the right tunnel between the stations “ZIL” and “Ostrov Mechty” of the under-construction Biryulyovskaya metro line.
“The metro line is important, residents have been waiting for it for many years, so we are working at an accelerated pace. Work is being carried out ahead of schedule on four stations. Active work is underway on five tunnels out of seven. Today we are launching the shield from ‘ZIL’ to ‘Dream Island.’ This is also an important stage of this work,” noted the Mayor of Moscow.
The tunnel-boring complex “Victoria” with a diameter of six meters has to cover 1.49 kilometers. The maximum depth will be 24 meters. They plan to complete the breakthrough at the beginning of 2027.
Earlier, in March 2026, the construction of the right running tunnel between the stations “Ostrov Mechty” and “Klenovyy Bulvar” was completed, and the construction of the left running tunnel from “Klenovyy Bulvar” towards “Kuryanova” began. The construction of the left tunnel from the station “Ostrov Mechty” to “Klenovyy Bulvar” has been ongoing since December 2025.
The introduction of the Biryulyovskaya metro line will be carried out in stages. The first stage is the construction of the section “ZIL” — “Kuryanovo” (8.65 kilometers, four stations), which is expected to be completed in 2028 (the construction readiness of the section is 31 percent). Work within the framework of the second stage on the section “Kuryanovo” — “Biryulyovo” (13.55 kilometers, six stations) is scheduled for 2029. It is expected that by 2030 the passenger flow of the line will exceed 165 thousand people per day.
Construction of the Biryulyovskaya metro line
The first plans for the construction of the metro in Biryulyovo appeared as early as the beginning of the 1970s. At that time, on the site of the eponymous worker’s settlement and the adjacent territory, which became part of the capital in 1960, massive housing construction began. Further creation of the Biryulyovo metro line was laid down in the master plan of the city of Moscow.
By the instruction of Sergey Sobyanin in 2021–2023ÂDeveloped and approved the routing and layout projects for sections of the Biryulyovskaya line.
The long-awaited branch will begin at the “ZIL” station and will reach the districtsÂBiryulyovo Vostochnoye and Biryulyovo Zapadnoye, where about 260 thousand people will live by 2030. Travel time to the center will be reduced by 30 minutes. Residents of the Kur’yanovo neighborhood in Pechatniki will also receive the metro, making trips to the center more convenient and 2.5 times faster.
“The Biryulyovskaya branch will become the seventh new line that has appeared on the Moscow metro map in recent years. It will improve transportation services for more than one million people from eight districts of the capital,” wrote Sergey Sobyanin on his channel

Overall, the construction of the new line will allow for improved transportation services for over one million residents of the Danilovsky, Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki, Pechatniki, Moskvorechye-Saburovo, Tsaritsyno, Biryulyovo Vostochnoye, and Biryulyovo Zapadnoye districts (including the population of new quarters being built under the renovation program), and those who work there. In addition, the transport accessibility of the ZIL development area, the “Dream Island” amusement park, the Southern River Terminal, the Kolomenskoye nature reserve museum, and other important city facilities will also improve.
Construction will also additionally connect the Bolshaya Koltsevaya (Big Circle), Troitskaya, and Zamoskvoretskaya metro lines, the MCC, and the Paveletskoye direction of the Moscow Railway, providing passengers with many new travel options around the city. As a result, by 2030, more than 130 thousand passengers per day will use transfers.
The load on the sections of the Zamoskvoretskaya and the Large Circle metro lines will additionally decrease. In particular, the “Tsaritsyno” and “Klenovy Boulevard” stations will be relieved by more than 30 percent. The intensity of vehicle traffic on the adjacent street and road network will also decrease, which, in turn, will improve the ecological situation.
In the composition of the Biryulyovskaya line with a length of more than 22 kilometers, 10 stations will be built:
— “ZIL” — at the intersection of Likhachev Avenue and Lisitsky Street, near the eponymous MCC station and the “Lemana Pro” store (transfer station for MCC and the Troitsk metro line);
— “Dream Island” — near the eponymous amusement park, located between Andropov Avenue and the Southern Landscape Park (transfer point to the Zamoskvoretskaya metro line);
— “Maple Boulevard” — along the eponymous boulevard at the intersection with Novinki Street (a transfer point to the Large Circle Metro line);
— “Kuryanovo” — on the territory between Batyuninsky Passage and Planned Passage No. 5112, near the developing area of the Pechatniki district;
— “Moskvorechye” — near the junction of Koshkina Street with Kashirskoe Highway;
— “Luganskaya” — along the Caucasian Boulevard near the junction with Yerevanskaya Street;
— “Kaspiyskaya” — near the intersection of 6th Radial Street with Planned Passage No. 6631;
— “Lipetskaya” — runs along the eponymous street near the junction with Pedagogicheskaya Street;
— “Lebedyanskaya” — along Lipetskaya Street near the junction with Lebedyanskaya Street;
— “Biryulyovo” — along Bulatnikovskaya Street near the junction with Bulatnikovsky Passage, not far from Biryulyovo-Passazhirskaya railway station.
From the moment the line is launched, the latest trains of Russian manufacture will circulate on it, and the stations will be equipped with all the usual passenger services: modern navigation and turnstiles, as well as ticket vending machines of metropolitan production. In addition, the stations will be adapted for people with limited mobility.
Initially, the trains operating on the line will be serviced at the “Yuzhnoye” electric depot, and later at the new “Biryulyovskoye” electric depot.
Construction has already begun on five stations — “ZIL”, “Dream Island”, “Maple Boulevard”, “Luganskaya”, and “Kaspiyskaya”. Work is underway there on installing fence structures and developing the soil for the excavation pits.
Preparatory work is underway at the remaining stations of the Biryulyovskaya line. The designer and general contractor is JSC “Mosinzhproekt”.

Station “ZIL”
The future “ZIL” station of the Biryulyovskaya metro line is located in the Danilovsky district and is expected to become part of the eponymous transport hub (Troitskaya, Biryulyovskaya metro lines and MCC). Currently, it is used by more than 16 thousand people daily (including transfers). It is expected that by 2030, the hub will be in demand by more than 30 thousand passengers per day, including over 14 thousand people transferring to the MCC and Troitskaya metro line.
Thanks to the new metro station “ZIL,” the transport service for more than 100 thousand residents of the Danilovsky district will improve. For example, travel time to the “Klenovy Boulevard” station of the Large Circle Line will be reduced sixfold.
The shallow laying station will be equipped with two vestibules, underground and aboveground, with exits on both sides of Liyachev Avenue. One of the vestibules will be integrated with a Moscow Central Circle station of the same name — for passengers, a single convenient transfer contour will be created, where they will be able to transfer between MCC stations, as well as the Troitskaya and Biryulyovskaya metro lines, without going outside. In addition, five elevators will be installed for passengers with limited mobility.
In the design of the aboveground part of the station in memory of the former ZIL plant, elements of industrial aesthetics are planned to be used. The columns and ceiling of the platform section will be clad with panels made of stainless polished steel, and the floor will be laid with natural heat-treated dark granite. One of the bright accents in the station design will be an artistic panel on the track wall.
The development of the soil for the “ZIL” station and the removal of engineering communications from the construction zone are currently being completed, as well as the installation of the main structures. The overall readiness of the facility is 38 percent.
Results of the implementation of the Moscow Metro construction program
