Beijing, April 28 /Xin Hua/ — Due to continuing warming on the section of the Heilongjiang /Amur/ River in the city of Heihe /Heilongjiang province, Northeast China/, which had been frozen for almost five months, the spring ice period has begun, and a full thaw of the river is expected soon, reported the news agency “Chunxin She” on its official website on Monday.
During the ice drift on this Chinese-Russian border river, diverse drifting ice floes amaze with a variety of their shapes and impressive sizes, which attracts tourist-photographers from all corners of China.
“Taking into account the peculiarities of the changeable river conditions and the complexity of observation during the ice formation period, the mechanism of ‘air-ground interaction’ was introduced, using unmanned aerial vehicles for operational arrival on site and assessment of the situation, along with interaction with a ground patrol group to ensure rapid response and dynamic monitoring of the entire river basin,” stated Czuun Yaolin, a police officer of a police precinct at the main border control checkpoint for entry and exit of Heilongjiang province.
The ice drift period is also a period of increased danger. According to Tszun Yaolina, in order to ensure the safety of the life and property of the population, a regime of enhanced duty was activated during the spring ice drift period, within which employees will carry out constant and comprehensive patrolling of key sections of the border river, to more quickly track changes in the ice situation, strictly prevent the transport of drifting ice to the riverbank and potential safety threats, as well as timely warn tourists approaching the river. -0-
