Saint Petersburg, April 27 /Sinyua/ — Russia will do everything to ensure that peace in the Middle East comes as soon as possible. This was stated on Monday by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Abbas Araghchi in Saint Petersburg, according to RIA-Novosti.

“On our part, we will do everything that corresponds to your interests, corresponds to the interests of all the peoples of the region, so that this world is achieved as quickly as possible,” V. Putin promised.

“We very much hope that, relying on this courage and aspiration for independence, the Iranian people will get through this difficult period of trials under the leadership of a new leader — and peace will come,” emphasized the Russian leader.

“I want to extend my most sincere words of gratitude for the message from the supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, and to confirm that Russia, like Iran, intends to continue our strategic relations,” added V. Putin.

A. Aragchi thanked Moscow for supporting Tehran. He highly appreciated the relations between the two countries and noted that they will continue to strengthen. The diplomat added that Iran will continue to fight against US aggression.

The Russian side in the meeting was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Igor Kostyukov. The Iranian delegation included, besides A. Araghchi, his deputy Kazem Garibabadi and the Ambassador of Iran to Moscow Kazem Jalali.
