Chita /Russia/, April 26 /Xinhua/ — The Ministry of Transport of Russia plans to carry out modernization of railway checkpoints in Zabaykalsky Krai, which will significantly increase cargo turnover with China. At the same time, it is necessary to synchronize the work with the efforts of the Chinese side. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Valentin Ivanov at the international forum “New Horizons — 2026,” held on April 23-24 in Chita, the administrative center of Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia.
“In terms of cargo items, it is extremely important to synchronize the development on both the Russian and Chinese sides, particularly in relation to the specific cargo nomenclature being transported,” V. Ivanov said in an interview with Xinhua.
“This work is underway. It needs to be actively accelerated,” he added.
According to him, in 2026-2027, modernization will be carried out at border points in Zabaykalsk, Solovyevsk, and other locations, which will significantly increase throughput capacity and the volume of cargo turnover with China.
V. Ivanov also noted the importance of accelerated integration of work between the Russian and Chinese sides in forming “smart customs clearance” and the use of artificial intelligence to optimize cargo transportation.
“We will integrate, the Chinese and Russian sides, and our colleagues who are engaged in optimization are actively working on this,” emphasized the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.
