Beijing, April 27 /Xin Hua/ — A draft amendment to the Agricultural Land Law was presented for consideration in the first reading on Monday at the 22nd session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), the country’s highest legislative body.

The draft amendments are aimed at further strengthening the fundamental role of agriculture in the national economy, supporting a comprehensive concept of agriculture and food products, promoting the high-quality development of agriculture, advancing the comprehensive revival of rural areas, accelerating the growth potential of agriculture, and ensuring reliable legal guarantees for the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

The Law on Agriculture, the fundamental legislative act regulating agriculture and the rural economy, was first adopted in 1993 and comprehensively revised in 2002. Minor amendments were made to certain provisions of the law in 2009 and 2012, respectively. -0-
