In spring, nature awakens, and the “international morning market” in the Aisui district of the city of Heyse comes back to life. This market is not only a favorite place for locals, where they buy products and vegetables, but also a popular “attraction” among Russian tourists who sweep everything here. Everything is available here — all kinds of delicacies, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as everyday goods.
At 6 in the morning, just as it begins to dawn, the market is already crowded. The aromas of a variety of morning foods spread through the streets and alleys. Sellers confidently call out to customers in Russian, creating a lively atmosphere.
At the counters with fresh fruits and vegetables, Russian tourists stop to try the treats or carefully choose a product. One of the Russian tourists, holding a bright red strawberry in her hand, said with a smile: “The fruits here are very tasty, and the price is much cheaper than in our country. Every time I return from China with full bags.”
In recent years, the large international morning market in the Nai Suay area has become a must-visit place for Russian tourists, thanks to its quality and inexpensive goods, rich assortment, and lively atmosphere. Tatyana, who arrived from Russia, tried the hot flatbread “gunpo bin” and gave a thumbs up: “I had long heard about your morning market. This flatbread is very tasty, I bought several pieces to take back to the hotel and treat my friends.”
For the convenience of Russian tourists, bilingual banners and price lists in Chinese and Russian are hung on many counters, and the sellers have learned simple Russian phrases for everyday communication.
Van Czyan, who has been selling strawberries at this market for 10 years, has felt the benefit of Russian tourist flow: “Chinese goods are very competitive in price and quality, so many Russians come here to have breakfast and buy fruits. Russian tourists buy three to four boxes of strawberries from me every day. The trade is much better than before.”
The “morning market economy” not only warms people’s hearts and brings income to traders, but also promotes cultural and tourist cooperation, as well as popular economic exchanges on the Chinese-Russian border.
