Tehran, April 26 /Xinhua/ — Civilians accounted for about 45 percent of the total number of those killed in Iran during the 40-day war with Israel and the United States. This was reported on Sunday by the Iranian state news agency IRNA.

As noted by the information agency with reference to Iranian officials, the total number of fatalities in the country amounted to 3468 people, including 1460 civilians.

The IRNA report states that the corresponding figures were given at a press conference in Tehran by the senior adviser to the head of the Foundation for the Affairs of Martyrs and Veterans of Iran, Jamshid Nazmi.

J. Nazmi clarified that among the killed civilians were women, men, children, and elderly people, as well as citizens of Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and Pakistan.

At the same briefing, the deputy head of the Faride Oladkoba Foundation reported that out of the total number of 499 fatalities, 499 were women and 2,969 were men. She added that the number of military losses amounted to 2,008 people.
