Beijing, April 26 /Xin Hua/ — The Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters together with the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC on Saturday stressed the necessity of taking urgent measures to prevent flood risks, as heavy rains are expected in some regions of southern China.
According to a meeting held by these two departments jointly with meteorological and hydrological services, from April 26 to 29, many southern regions of the country will be drenched by heavy rains, characterized by a wide impact zone and rapid movement of intense precipitation bands.
At the meeting, the necessity of strengthening patrols and measures to respond to emergencies concerning water reservoirs and dams was emphasized, and it was also proposed to enhance planned technical maintenance and inspections for the presence of hazards.
According to the meeting, during the main flood season, all reservoirs, posing a danger, must be operated in an empty state in accordance with the requirements, and it is also necessary to pre-deploy forces, means, and equipment for emergency response and carrying out rescue operations.
