Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova participated in the solemn ceremony of awarding the All-Russian Municipal Award “Service.” The Vice Premier presented the award to the winner in the category “Unity of the Peoples of Russia – the Strength of the Country,” Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, for the project “Kazan. Unity in Diversity.”

“The strength of our country lies in unity and mutual respect for each other. Today, local self-government is a space where unity is born through work, through celebrations, through caring for the future. All this is the guarantee of our country’s greatness. I sincerely congratulate the finalists and winners. And today it is a great honor to announce that the project “Kazan. Unity in Diversity” took first place in the nomination “Unity of the Peoples of Russia – the Strength of the Country,” said Tatyana Golikova.

The mayor of the city Ildus Metshin initiated a new strategy – a transition from separate actions to creating an integrated ecosystem, where native languages and cultural codes become a natural, fashionable, and lively part of the everyday life of every citizen. The project “Kazan. Unity in Diversity” permeates all spheres of city life. Culture has moved out of concert halls onto the streets: on the embankment of Lake Kaban weekly master classes “Movement is Unity” are held, and the facade of the mayor’s office becomes a stage for the unique performance “Voices of Kazan”, where theatrical art is combined with video mapping.Urban transport has turned into an educational platform: a metro train decorated by artists “Trains of Native Languages” circulates, and bilingual audio guides play in buses. Special attention is given to the new generation. A theatrical studio “Apush” has been created for children; 6 of its branches have been opened, an educational animated series “Õminë” is being produced, and the project “Gäüñär” involves professional artists in teaching schoolchildren to play folk instruments and in choreography. In Kazan, they rethought and reinterpreted the architectural appearance through the prism of national unity: the international forum “Kazanysh” brings together thousands of architects to search for a visual code reflecting the city’s identity. In 5 years of implementing the strategy, more than 300 projects have been realized – from the gastronomic festival “Tasty Kazan” to literary competitions with international participation.
