Urumqi, April 22 /Xin Hua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, 85 thousand commercial vehicles were exported through the Khorgos Special Economic Zone in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Northwest China), which became the new maximum for an analogous period in the history of the functioning of this border port and turned out to be 13.1 percent higher in annual terms, according to data from the Khorgos Customs.

Khorgos is the largest free trade zone in China for the export of automobiles. Since the beginning of the current year, automobile exports through it have demonstrated significant growth. Nearly a thousand commercial vehicles are exported daily from here to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative. Export transport vehicles include passenger cars, SUVs, excavator-loaders, buses, and dump trucks.Among us, a significant share is occupied by automobiles as a new energy source, which, thanks to their technological advantages, enjoy wide popularity in five countries of Central Asia, Russia, and other countries.

The general director of the international transport and forwarding company “Vanyue,” Du Bin, reported that from January to March of the current year, his company exported more than 900 commodity vehicles through the Khorgos Special Economic Zone, with a total amount of 197 million yuan (about 28.7 million USD). The total order volume increased by almost 21.3% on an annualized basis. “In addition to Central Asian countries, we have also made active efforts to supply vehicles to the Russian market,” he added.

In connection with the steady growth of automobile exports, the Khorgos customs has undertaken a number of measures to optimize the customs control process and implemented a cargo customs clearance system operating round the clock to ensure efficient customs inspection intended for export of goods vehicles.
