Nanchang, April 20 /Xinhua/ — On Monday, the 5th Conference on the Promotion of Reading in the Public Environment was launched in the city of Nanchang, the administrative center of Jiangxi Province in eastern China, during which the National Reading Week 2026 was officially opened.

Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and head of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan Li Shuley took part in the opening of the event and gave a speech at it.

Event participants called for increased efforts to popularize reading across the country and to develop a culture of reading in society.

Noting that reading is the most fundamental aspect of cultural construction, they emphasized the necessity of fully utilizing the important role of nationwide reading in building a cultural power and stimulating the innovative and creative energy of the entire nation.

They also called for the improvement of the development and management of public libraries.

Within the framework of this year’s Nationwide Reading Week, held from Monday to Sunday, a series of events will take place, aimed at awakening enthusiasm for reading throughout society.
